EPDM Flat Roof System |
The EPDM one piece flat roof system is ideal for large free standing
or adjoined structures (i.e. double garage, extensions etc).
Jointing is not necessary if the roof measures less than 15m in either
width or length. Sheets are available in widths of 3m, 6m, 9m
12m & 15m x 30 metres in length. From these manufactured rolls our flat roof company cut any bespoke sized membrane sheet to the nearest half
metre (see Service
page and
DIY Shop) The one piece flat roof membrane can be fitted quickly because all three methods (see below) require no heat nor special tools to install. Suitable for most flat roof buildings, insulating flat roof patios and green roofs. (extensive green roof and intensive green roof systems)
| EDPM can be fully bonded, secured with ballasted or mechanically attached depending on the existing roof and its proposed usage. All systems are shown on the complementary fitting DVD. |

 |
| EPDM is laid directly over geo textile underlay
and is secured with ballast. Perfect for old roofs where the original
base is in good condition, the removal of the old felt is
not always necessary |
EPDM is adhered to the base with substrate adhesive (or
water based adhesive for new decking). For this method the base must in good dry level condition
and not water damaged |
A number of rubber strips are laid over the underlay forming a grid.
These strips are secured by metal plates and woodscrews. The EPDM is
simply bonded to this grid using seam adhesive |

| The EPDM must
be clamped to the non-gutter edge to stop wind uplift. Soffits or facia boards can also be used to do this available from builders merchants. |
Fully Bonded Example (Water
based adhesive is used bond to the new plywood and substrate deck only
and substrate adhesive is to be used on the perimeter edges, upstands,
facias, brick, wood etc.)
 |
 |
| EPDM membrane flat roof covering is placed into position over new
flat roof decking |
The sheet is placed to the extents of the flat roof making sure
there is adequate overhang over each flat roof edge |
 |
 |
| Once the rubber sheet has been adhered directly to the
plywood a timber batten is attached to the leading edge. It is then
folded over and attached to the fascia above the gutter |

waterproofing membrane in its final position. Aluminium edge trims are
fitted to perimeter edges to provide a professional finish and to
protect against wind uplift |
Mechanically Attached Example
(Laid on top of existing flat roof felt)
 |
 |
| The roof is swept clean of all debris |
The flat roofing felt is removed from all the edges |
 |
 |
| Geo textile underlay is placed directly over the
original felt and secured with tacks or staples. Rubber strips (epdm)
are fixed over the felt to
form a grid and is secured using woodscrews and fixing plates. |
One piece EPDM flat roofing membrane is bonded to the grid using seam
adhesive and adhered over onto the new facia boards with substrate
adhesive. Flat roof edge trims clamp
the EPDM the non-gutter edges. |
